You gift with self-recriminations.
Mentally diminishing worth for choices
that no longer seem your own.

I watch the ache play across your face
wondering if you realize
that even good obsessions are addictions
wearing sheep’s clothes.

I am no different than you
in that I hold myself tight
when the pain of lack is unbearable
with relief just out of reach.

My obsession speaks to me
mocking me, telling me I am unworthy.
Therefore why bother
to do differently.

We all hide truths too harsh
to face. We all have our vices
to get us through the day.
You, my most beloved friend

will always have my hand
when it gets cold.

Hi, Susan!

I felt the chill behind your words.

and smiling here. I got bit by a spider in Crowley. I didn't even know I was sick until I broke the fever.

I don't know why it didn't occur to me that it was slightly odd to sleep under two comforters in 90+ degree weather.

But then, none my family noticed either.

Oblivion is a gift at times.

*hugs you* Thanks for the warmth.

Susan, you brought a tear to my eye with this as I felt the depth of your love for your friend.  I'm adding this to my library for a rainy day for a friend.   .....jo

Susan, this is a wonderful warm hug write. Your friend's temperature should rise to the level of comfort when s(he) reads this.
What a beautiful gift you've offered.

Thank you all.

The person this is for has yet to step up and claim it.. But they know what their friendship means to me...I don't know how I lived most my life without them.

Susan,  you are blessed in having a friend
of that caliber.  You are also blessed in
your ability to write a darn fine piece of

What?  No summers?  I get your hand during the off season?!?!?!  Fine, but I want a lower rate if I'm only on hand for winter...
Seriously Myrtle, you know I love ya.
I mean, the way I look at it, I got REAL lucky when we hit it off.  You, well luck had nothing to do with it.  You simply have excellent taste in friends...

True friends are far and few between, and there is no better way to cut the chill. May you always hold his hand in yours Susan, and share that little bit of happiness that takes the edge off.  Loved your poem and sweet honesty.

Susan so many truths in this, given with such warmth, reminds me how i tried to do that, deliver truths gently.

It's so lovely to see such a friendship, with that kind of understanding, on both sides.

You're bloody great! x
