I cry ugly.

Whether tears are borne of joy
Or weep for heart that's breaking
The tracks of tears wreck my face,
Leave my eyes red and aching

But there's beauty incomparable
When tears leak from a man's eyes
Such strength and masculinity
Is shown in those times he cries

He's not afraid to show he cares
Or feel another's pain
And when his love seeps down his cheeks
You know his lady reigns

Supreme in both his heart and thoughts
He'll love eternally
His support won't falter
No matter what might be

And in those times that a good laugh
Leaves the stain of tears
You know that for a moment he's
Escaped all stress and fears

So while I know that I'm a mess
If tears are on my face
I'm proud to know real men whose tears
Show compassion and grace

For macho isn't masculine
Sensitivity's not a curse
Men of tears should have better tribute
Than this rather silly verse. *S*

Inspired in part by Larry C's "Dam the Tears"...

I do, too...

cry ugly, that is,...if and when I do.

Your heart sings
and Larry will be proud.

SweetSuthernGal~
You are a sheer delight to find on this morning~

'For macho isn't masculine
Sensitivity's not a curse'

I remember discussing with my friendie-gals what traits attract us to men ... they thought it 'different' that I listed 'eyes-that-know-how-to-spill-tears' and not be afraid to do so~

I love what you did with your inspire, lady~

I agree! For a man to cry the tears doesn't make him any less of a man. It only shows, they are caring individuals. And, there is nothing wrong with that.

Laura, this is exquisite! You may cry ugly, but when you write, you express True so beautifully that once caught, a reader can't stop until he reaches the end...unless, as so often happens with your work, the eyes blur for a moment...

I'll tell you one thing, you bullseyed me with this -- I've always thought the won't-eat-Quiche men of this world are simpering fools, too weak and shallow to acknowledge their own softer feelings...and any woman who expects that of a man, isn't a woman at all.

You know you had me twice. It was you AND the title.

Sobbing never was attractive but sometimes you have to feel worse to feel better. And tears were never meant for sharing except with those you love. Pretty much the same when sharing your heart which you have done here. How I thank you for this write. Well done!

And just so you know I'm not afraid of tears here is proof:

Confessions of Age

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Isn't it a release when tears come, except when they come in flood. I cry ugly too, I guess most people do. But you are so right when you say a man's tears are purified somehow. Love your work and love you lady.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Suthern, you never fail to touch me. Tears released freely are what help us to know who we are. They sometimes flow so easily I wonder what brought them on. An unexpected smile, a parade, a sudden insight, so many different reasons for them to show.
But this I know, a man who can let someone see this tenderness, is someone to appreciate. best, martyjo

Very well espresses,  Suthren

I have taken the liberty to slightly alter your last stanza...hope you don't mind..

For macho isn't masculine
Sensitivity's not a curse
Men of tears could have no better tribute
Than are found in this sesitive verse.

My opinion is that the verse is not "silly" at all...

GS & Susan: Thank you both so very much! *S* It was a man's tears that made me realize I'd slipped into love... I was 99.999% sure that was the case, but a tear removed all doubt. *S* And recently... after 24 years of bantering with and harassing my brother-in-law... his tears for my Dad dropped that "in-law" designation forever...
