Each step took me, though my fear tried to encase me in stone...hoping that a chisel might crack that which held me, haunted me.
Each stone, falling softly over into the night air. Landing unheard, unseen... Far below this ledge of fright and terror.
Each breath, labored...stifled at times as a step behind paused...as I paused, my heart racing madly, my hands trembling...my eyes closed as a prayer crossed my tongue.
Will the night air encase me forever in this vacuum? Holding me steadily in wait of the waiting blade that hovers in the darkness behind me. Will I know? Can I break from this fear that binds my soul and lingers nigh?
I must....or once again the night shall win and a damp fog shall smother the cries of man....behind a closed door, uttering a silent scream....evermore...

Another fine thriller has dripped from thy razor-sharp quill, Sir Poe-et!
