When the dazzling rainbows call my name
after a constant rainfall, day and night,
I look skyward, seek the colors that refresh,
in a splendid spectacular spectral delight.

I am humbled and awed at the flames of light
which beckon me to remember my sacred vow of humanity,
to honor all forms of LIFE on this planet Earth,
the only one I know that can be a HOME for me.

And I see within my visual bank of memories,
a Lakota hoop dancer named Kevin Locke,
who dances the sacred message of Unity,
with twenty eight hoops as I recall,
representing four seasons, four winds,
four compass directions, four main racial divisions.

The hoops are red, yellow, black and white,
and though I've never seen black in the rainbow,
nor do I recall a true red, yellow or white,
I know these colors are held within the band of Love
that flashes itself in the skies above,
promising us that there is a bright side
that follows all the cold wet darkness.

thanks Magnus, for reading

I've had the pleasure of meeting with him two times, and can say without reservation (pun intended)
he is an awesome messenger of the belief that we are all one. His hoop dancing and flute playing are truly magnificent.
I remember, too, a song I learned as a child, red and yellow black and white, we're all his children, in his sight"
or some such wording.

Kacy~
As an admiring fan of Kevin Locke's ... the hoops of the hoop dance represent "the four human races, the four directions, four seasons, four winds, and more."

More can be found at this page of his website - http://www.kevinlocke.com/hoop.htm

He is a highly respected member of the Indian Tribe and this is a lovely tribute
that will stay with me for a long time~

Thank you sweet poetess~

I had a feeling you were probably familiar with Kevin's hoop dance and flute. He is a beautiful beautiful soul. Several years ago, I was honored to spend a couple of hours in a fireside chat with Kevin, discussing race unity issues, Standing Rock tribal/reservation issues, and in general...the state of mankind.
