Blessed be the eyes that see from behind the ramparts of the naked soul, the cost of truth foreshadows loss in the killing fields of love where ancient shades of childhood’s pains feed demons in your dreams; I can not help you in your quest ‘til you release the past; self loathing and despair may be the only way you survived abuse, but your back is turned now on the paths of life where youth is simply mulch on the gardens of memory; open your eyes that you may see. not even devils’ tortures last. © 2005 by icebox |

I admire and respect your wisdom and ability to combine that with visuals which flow from the page while eliciting thought -- that's a great combination, if you ask me... -MVS You CAN make a difference, but first you should learn how: http://educate-yourself.org/intro.shtml |

icebox "Blessed be the eyes that see from behind the ramparts of the naked soul, the cost of truth foreshadows loss in the killing fields of love" I'm not sure survivers should or can completely erase the past....instead, use it as a tool for the places they would go, or keep out of, in the future. It is in the deeper understanding of human nature that has hurt, that growth happens. |

icebox - you are very wise ... and growing wiser but we can't erase the past. We can only learn to live with it and the longer we do, the less impact it has on us but its fingerprints are all over us forever. I enjoy your writings so very much! |

"I can not help you in your quest ‘til you release the past;" I don't think we can erase the past.. just hope that in time they become faded memories. Excellent write Sir. Happy Fourth! |

Thank you all for your time and your thoughts. I deeply appreciate you all. I agree the past can not be erased; trying to do that - to deny the past - simply feeds the demons and makes more strong the demons' claws on the soul. To release its grasp however, is different and may free the victim to form reactions as an adult, not as the child who had been abused...to move from terror to a healthy adult anger beyond which with luck may be found peace. This was written for a specific individual, no, not a memnber of PiP, who is trapped in the reactions of childhood and who is destroying her adult life and the people around her because she can not bring herself to accept the truth of her childhood and by so doing accept the child in her and allow her to release her death grip on the terror and begin to learn new positive ways to be free, new pathways to safety. Again, thank you. |

these words are like a mirror image... If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried. |

This is the first I have read by you and I really enjoyed it. This poem really hits home for me and it helped me come to some conclusions about my own life. I do dwell in my past mistakes, and I need to look toward the future, thanks and good write. I will have my eye out for your poetry |

Strong poetry, I.B., strong indeed... I read this after Kacy's "Veins" Found several parallels.. Both gave me little chills. -----------ice ><> |

brilliant, stunning write in it's depth and succinctity, although one day we'll be past tense -- your words have a future |

"self loathing and despair may be the only way you survived abuse" and a complete waste of time. Things happen that cannot be changed. We must recognize that and then move on...overcome and thrive. "too bad ignorance isn't painful" |

It's a beach with no lifeguards -- and that can be the safest kind. We who dare swim, know the dangers, and the need to help when and where it's needed. The timid stay where the timid belong -- on the beach with the rest of the sand. But alas for the few who are thrown in, unready for the riptides. This seems to be one of them....I hope your quest succeeds. ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸¸¸ºº> ~~(¸¸ ¸¸ºº> ~~~(¸¸ER¸¸ºº> |

But they last in our minds and our fears long past the physical realities. And some people can never go beyond that moment, and live in it forever. Nan (Pilgrim variety) |

Great advice in this poem as the past we need, to create a better future. You can never erase it, nor should you try, but instead find a comfortable place to put it, learn from it, and if it was your own mistake, learn from that experience and try to never repeat it. So many suffered abuse as children and it is easier to let it be their "stuff" than one realizes. You are so right, until they are ready to let it go, not a thing you can do for them but listen I guess, and hope they can move on, it is very liberating |
