We know it means we’re past our youth And when we’re there we’ll know the truth We know it didn’t seem that long When we were young and feeling strong In this life we strive ahead And try to climb another tread Wander further up the track And find there is no turning back We tire for the hill is steep Commitments we all try to keep So step by step we all go on Unto the place we then belong The ones up further show the way Leaving clues so not to stray That we might glimpse what lies ahead And reach again another tread While glancing back we watch and find That as we age we do not mind And though the hill is fairly steep Our footing we still somehow keep And when we reach the top we find That we are blessed by life of kind And down the hill is just a run To better things of yet to come So in my life on way up hill I’ll leave a trail that time won’t kill And leave a rope of knots to give My family grip and years to live And on the other side I’ll wait Even if the time turns late For others that have climbed the hill Still finding they’ve not had their fill And we will speak of what was when The age of youth and stories then Enjoying pastures wild and green Finding all is not a dream And then we’ll knock on heavens door As many others have before And start to climb another hill Where yonder will be better still |

Geez...I don't know what to say.... This was beautiful reading and encouragment to seek what is ahead of us, as our climb carries us to higher and better places. Thank you so much for posting this! * That which gives light, must endure burning * |

This was so well written, and meaningful. Your extended metaphor was perfect. I loved the ending. *Meredith I'm not your type, |

Rick, what a beautifully written poem. And it's so true. Even though the steps may get labored at times, if we will just keep going on things will be better one day. thanks for sharing your poem. Hugs, Ethel |
