I walk a thousand miles
alone
in my thoughts.

My skin cold
with lack
of warmth,
lack of touch.

I think about
times when things were worse.
I was scared
to take a chance on change.

I can still feel the burn
of lonely.
The chill of dismissal.
Your finger as it traced
my spine.

I wonder why it is
that I’m always waiting
for a hand to brush my face,
for lips to whisper a smile to my eyes.

Things work out better in my mind.
A cracked shell still holds water.
Turbulent seas offer sustenance,
and two hearts hear each other
from a distance.

I can’t tell you for sure what it is I need.
But I can hear our beat
and it’s a bit out of sync.

Susan, I hearya, gal! I've been there, and you could not have expressed those feelings better than you just did ~ and so eloquently at that!

"Arrhythmia" ~ Perfect title!

"But I can hear our beat
and it’s a bit out of sync." ~ Perfect ending!

~ as was everthing you wrote in between!

Linda
P.S. If this is truly how you are feeling at the present time, I am giving you a loving, understanding heart hug.

Things always go better in my thoughts.  But my thoughts can't trace a finger down my spine.

and as for this bittersweet...
Well, the title drew me in...great start...

I second what Kari said...Happy Birthday lovely lady

This was great
especially....
I wonder why it is
that I’m always waiting
for a hand to brush my face,
for lips to whisper a smile to my eye

Usedd to wonder that myself...and have come to realize, it is self we're searching for...to gain knowledge and understanding of who we really are, and what we desire...upon finding out so many things about ourselves, we realize, we've been loved all this time...

Hugs to ya and have a marvelous weekend.
