I wrote this after reading an article in the newspaper saying that there are 26,000 homeless young people here in Australia alone.I know it is a worldwide problem but this article really hit home just how bad the situation is, especially here in my homeland. Through my words I tried to imagine how life must be for these lost souls. * * * I seek shelter in a doorway Or sometimes in a park I find it hard to get to sleep For I hear voices in the dark They tell me I'm a loser In this world I have no place But no one hears me cry As the tears stream down my face I could not possibly return To the place I once called home Where I was beaten and abused I would much rather be alone People are quick to judge me They take one look then turn away They don't understand my situation That I have nowhere else to stay How I'd love to be a part Of a normal family A place where I'd feel loved And no harm would come to me Within the depths of my despair In the middle of the night As I suffer here in silence I am void of love and light But I must face reality As I continue to roam Out here on these streets Is the place that I call home 21 June 2005 I am in motion |

Your compassion has been multiplied, Sue, by all those homeless young ones. Yes, this is everywhere. It is indeed a "throw away society" in some respects. In other ways, there is just NO respect taught in homes any more, and kids run off. OR... Mom and Dad try, logically, legally, morally, to teach their kids right from wrong,...but the kids are swayed by their friends, get off on the wrong foot, and don't know how to say "I was wrong" before it is too late. I wish we had a way to straighten them ALL out... You did good, honey. Thank you. |

Hi, I'm fairly new to this site but have found it comforting. Your poem is truer than many realize and not only for the younger ones. You said it perfectly yet sad enough I believe it's going to get worse. God Bless & keep writing. Tndeer1 |
