Where art thee ball,
Where can thee be?
Why is it that
I cannot see?
thy dimples fair,
thy pro-vee smile?
I know I hit
thee half a mile,
perhaps so far
beyond my sight
lays precious orb,
all dressed in white.
Three hundred yards
towards far green,
in fairway's grass
no ball is seen.
I scratch my head,
a man perplexed,
I must admit
to being vexed,
Then I hear
on the course behind,
"Could we play through,
if you don't mind?
and by the way,
there's a pro-vee
laying there
on the women's tee.

One last word
before I part,
Who the heck
is this here Art?

That one was right on the green!

The spotlight can only get brighter.

There is a secret place, I know,
Where all the errant golf balls go.
Cloaked in invisibility
It lies where human eye can't see.
Above the ground, beneath the sky
A hidden world one passes by
While searching for a hook or slice
That did not treat us very nice.

A bad hit is a golfer's bane.
We walk around and search in vain
Believing that the ball lies near
At least in this same hemisphere
But, though we search with falcon's eye
No dimpled object do we spy
for it is in that hidden place
Where golf balls vanish without trace.

And so we search with muttered moan
Until we find ourselves alone
Beyond the sight of golfers who
Have trees or shrubs to block their view
And second ball falls out of hand
(in just the way that we had planned)
As we call, "Holy cow! Gee whiz!!
It's ok, fellas...here it is!!!"
