Moved from a shack to a barn

I’ve been invited to a wedding
Or so my sister says

My cousins’ daughter

But then, it would only be natural
To be invited to a family wedding

The very few friends and acquaintances
I haven’t sloughed off
Or ignored into oblivion

Know I’m not at my best in a crowd

And even at that, I’m fairly certain
The invite was included as a post script

By the way, if you see Ed…

I’ll attend, of course
If only to think that one day
A small child, not yet born

May turn the pages of an old family album
Place a plump, pink finger
Squarely on a bearded face
Staring from a yellowing photograph

And wonder aloud
"Gramma? Who’s dat?"

something about this really captured me. I think because it really reminds me of someone close to me... it's eerily familiar. You have done well at expressing this ...
thank you for posting.

Yep. I can see that photo album now. And the answer will be: "Oh honey that's your great second cousin once removed, the one who wrote all those wonderful poems."

I can hear the mother replying with a great big smile, that is someone very important and very wise that you need to meet someday very soon.

Hugs, well expressed.

And Gramma will say..
"Why, he's that wonderful writer, we've been reading his books of poetry to you."

Have fun at the wedding Ed.

Ed, I would like to echo Poet deVine's reply! She stated what I was thinking, perfectly!

You will most likely enjoy yourself more than you may think you will!

nod

That's exactly why I'd corner you, get you drunk and make you dance mad moves.

(and I seriously doubt anyone would or could ever forgot you)

You need some severe work on your self esteme  All, and I mean all our family called me several times to make sure you knew you were invited. You are so so so so admired by your own. Wish you could see that.
