She was fascinated, But cautious, as many Had come before Bringing flowers, singing Romantic songs; After her husbands death, When she became alone. The other men That came to court, Worked hard at erasing His shadows trace... But all declined, For the hill of guessing Was too steep, And answers to the questions That she asked were coded In enigma from the start.. They all tried To make exchange Of mortal imperfections With perfections of a ghost, And so the riddle stayed; For none could pass The widows test, and guess The hidden answers; Until a poet came along, Singing short line phrases In stanza explanations, Different then was sounded- In repeated, static-lyrics Of her other-suitors songs.... ******************************* (The poet speaks) "Your beauty captivates, Your mind intrigues; I want to be your lover, But first I feel, must state That what I send in rhyme- Appeal, on written lines Does not explain, How I might fill the place Of he so long, that won, And held your zeal; What I mean is this... That it's impossible For me to try to fill the space, Of one that now is ghost And gone... To do so would be wrong! So what it is, I humbly seek, Is a different-special spot For you to place, The image of my face, In the locket Of your loving heart." |

Ford I think with the understanding of the widow's heart, the poet will win a place there. I loved this story! |

Ford... yet another keeper of the heart... To every riddle, must be an answer... even when they are not the ones expected... This is lovely... and I thank you for your pen, wit, and charm. [This message has been edited by Sunshine (05-16-2005 05:02 PM).] |

this was most definately a Bravo!!!! One can never fill anothers shoes, but his own, which may be not taking the place of another, but filling the gap, and eventually growing even stronger then the other, there are many different kinds of love...especially as we grow older, so much value, and blantant honesty...a different brand new start...... Loved this |

There certainly is no "ice" in the veins of the man who wrote this fine poem! It is full of heart and soul ~ and wisdom. ~ A poignant story so beautifully written. Thoroughly enjoyed!!! Linda |

Thank You poet friends... I am blessed by your wonderful replies, and also for your understanding of what I am trying to say through my poetry.... Trying to portray emotions with words is indeed hard sometimes, but when a poem of mine stirs the reader, it becomes an unmatched reward.... -----------ice/ford ><> |

Great poem. Comparison is always a risk indeed. A poet has the means to warm a heart and who can blame him? This is really lovely. Love, Margherita |
