“What light through yon window breaks?”

Go to bed, I said,
It’s late and you’ve school tomorrow,
Reading romance novels all night;
And there’s a pile beside your bed,
I told you an hour ago about that light.
Sixteen is too rough an age for romance,
Yes I know they’re your mother’s,
This is not the time to talk of the spring dance,
Go to sleep, the books will keep,
The story won’t change if unread;
So like her mother she is,
Who would have then beside our bed.

I can just write about what I know and I know I don’t know a good night sleep of late.  It’s too easy to worry about daughters.  Thanks for your response and its support by approval.

My mother was a constant reader as was her mother, and by them, I inherited a fond regard for books and a passion for reading...I think she got me started at a very early age - I wanted to know just why everyone was laughing at the Sunday comic strips...which, I remember thinking, were poorly drawn back then...LOL...

it was a LONG time ago!

This brought a smile, and several fond memories of two fine women who molded me...

thank you.
