the sun sets slowly crowning the room in night~ i watch the shadows slide down the walls above the horizon a red amber glow day's last light~ as i prepare to wonder through my soul's empty halls the warmth of day is gone replaced by forgetfulnes brown amber liquid, like an old friend, calls~ as i stroll through my mind, a tangled mess no one left here from whom my habit needs to confess~ my hand slides down to the desk drawer to remove his well worn picture once more~ held in hand i stare another shot of whiskey as many nights before~ my eyes begin to glisten in the suns final glare gazing yet again at which is lost, no one shall care~ two friends, soulmates, lovers smiling, free for torment i know neither of them now just a mere drunken ghost and a shade whom haunts my every waking moment~ i tip the bottle back and forgo the glass the time which it could of saved long since past~ i hold the heavy bottle in my hand it's weight greater than any should bare it has left my soul a barren wastland corruption it has left in what was once fair~ with a heave i throw the bottle against the wall a moments agony as i watch the amber liquid flow against the white paint the pungent streams fall~ to a pool on the carpet below i look down to my hands both occupied one holds his picture the other holds the glass of lies truth ishard to swallow~ one lost on account the other yet still i cling to it like a brother~ a fool perhaps and yet i still weep for the loss of one i cannot keep~ he is lost to me forever but the walk to the store is an easy endeavor~ welcomeing neon becons me in garish lights and bottles of sin~ and only a few bills to place on the counter forgetfulness will follow for hours and hours what is lost is gone will never return and his touch i will forever yearn~ but the wild turkey does the job at stifling my late night sobs they say to have loved and lost is better than to have never loved at all they might be right i might consider the matter~ as i sit imprisoned behind glass walls~ for a special friend ~ someone i care about here~ ` My spirit will rise above the sea~ There will be no drowning of my soul or me~ [This message has been edited by MGROVES (04-17-2005 10:02 AM).] |

Well done , Marsha, a difficult subject, handled with grace and compassion.... Remenber, in every bottle, there is a messege, just like there is in every poem. The owner of the bottle may not understand the language, even when they try desperately hard to do so.. But I think in this case, your messege has been well received and decifered, hopefully will help, simply by being written, for someone with an extreme task burdening them. Every incriment of weight released will help them with the load.. -----------ice ><> |

whoa, this is very haunting and graphic. i really love the bit where you said that to love and lost is better than to never love at all, it puts a whole new shadow to the poem. |

MG, you're AOK in my books! A very loving and compassionate gesture for our friend. The strength and courage it took to come out from behind your own glass walls, it admirable! ~ and to share that with others gives hope to those who suffer from similar battles. A superbly vivid and solar plexus-grabbing write. I commend you on the poem ~ and on your understanding and caring heart. Sending you a big, loving hug and a humongous pat on the back, Linda |

I dont think you are alone in that care I wrote the drunk and another poem in the same light But life has more power than a bottle - no matter how bad but we have to sink to the point when nothing matters and then we blind the world and not just a relationship in self destruction Dave |
