The warming sun has yet to rise, When a flutter opens her eyes; Nothing to see but shades of gray And slight noises of a starting day. Off the pillow comes her head And back the blankets are tossed As she exits the warmth of bed To chill air where breath is frost. A candle brightens what is there, Bed table and rockingchair, But what is brightened most of all Is the crucifix on the wall. She straightens the bed And kneels bowing her head, She prays for strength and wisdom To face the day yet to come, To heal the sick and help the poor To bless our leaders once more. Opens the door and snubs the light, Not to return till deep into the night. Gloom |

"But what is brightened most of all Is the crucifix on the wall.
