There are parts of your heart you cannot claim And perhaps deep inside, they cause you shame But you all too readily take the blame For others' limitations. If there's unhappiness, then you must change Try to be what you aren't and rearrange Priorities in uneven exchange To fulfill expectations. But if you could sift through some of the noise And all the criticisms that are voiced You would realize it has been our choice To not look for blame within Or to see the person you really are In a cold cruel world, you're a shining star And shouldn't keep having your spirit carved Just because it's always been. |

Laura, you have eyes that see so deeply....and a way of saying things that never fails to move me. It's so easy to give and adjust and set our sights lower, whether we should or not, and to end up in a private hell because of it.
