There are parts of your heart you cannot claim
And perhaps deep inside, they cause you shame
But you all too readily take the blame
For others' limitations.

If there's unhappiness, then you must change
Try to be what you aren't and rearrange
Priorities in uneven exchange
To fulfill expectations.

But if you could sift through some of the noise
And all the criticisms that are voiced
You would realize it has been our choice
To not look for blame within

Or to see the person you really are
In a cold cruel world, you're a shining star
And shouldn't keep having your spirit carved
Just because it's always been.

It sounds as though you have a deep understanding of someone very special.  You are special too!

Suthern Belle, your middle name is Love.

Suthern Love Belle! Yeppers! That's you!

You're southern. You're love personified. ~ and you are beautiful.

At first read I thought you were writing about someone else, then I realized that you were looking within. Well, the view from here is mighty fine!

Hugs with love,

Linda

Laura, you have eyes that see so deeply....and a way of saying things that never fails to move me. It's so easy to give and adjust and set our sights lower, whether we should or not, and to end up in a private hell because of it. Been there, done that.....but may have to go again because my souvenir T-shirt caught fire on the way back.....

ah lady....one day, one hour, one minute, one second at a time....that's all we have...so curve those pretty lips and smile....*shrugs and looks helplessly on* it helps some of the time....try again...and again...and again
this says so much, about life, and blame, and life, and blame.....and there is only so much you can shoulder before you crater...
great write

"And shouldn't keep having your spirit carved
Just because it's always been.”

Beautiful lines, truly, that one should not keep in step with what has “always been,” simple because it has a trek of history… there are other paths for hearts to create and find the strength in doing so.

Enjoyed this poem, the message and the smooth flow.  Thanks for sharing.

Back for that library check....sometimes a poem affects me in a way that draws me back time and again. Your Ferry To Bolivar is one, and I already know this will be another.
