I.O.U.

I owe you

What the David Rock
owes Michelangelo:
centuries of quiet reverence,
and I owe you too
the scattered grace of days
you’ve given without plan
or thought of any recompense.
I owe you both the form
and substance of the man I am;
I owe you nights of tears
and afternoons of joy,
owe holidays and poems,
roses and the surging tide,
morning kisses, twilight melodies,
these things and more I owe
for I am a rock, it’s true,
and yet without you, only stone.

Jamie

Knowing you, I have the feeling that you have already given much in this same way.

I expect excellence when I open your work and I'm never disappointed. *S* But sometimes the treat is extra special... it is here. *S*

We're bombarded daily with images of the devastation that can be wrought by love gone wrong... you've given us the opposite... how love that's right makes us more than we could ever have been alone.

This is exquisite... and exceptional!!!

James,

IOU for sharing your superb poem!  The ending--just the last stroke upon excellence.  Another one to the shelf!
Always it is a delight to read how wonderfully you write elation, melancholy, or anything in between!

James,

I.O.U.-Yes!  One can never appreciate a person too much!  Lovin' the reference to the greats and to quiet reverence.
