At times this fast-paced world can be
A burden hard to bear.
The daily grind brings out in me
A feeling of despair.
When days like those come to my door
And I can feel the grind
I visit worlds I knew before
Down hallways of my mind.

I plop down in my comfy chair
Lean back and raise my feet.
A comfy pillow waits me there
To make the scene complete.
I close my eyes and settle back
To let my nerves unwind
As mind goes on a one-way track
Through hallways of my mind.

I visit places I had known
From old days way back when,
Recall the seeds that I had sown
And sow them once again.
I think of turns that my life took
By God and Fate designed
View my life as an open book
That dwells within my mind.

Old feelings come alive once more
As my mind takes a look
Of all the choices I explored
And pathways that I took.
The now is gone - the past returns
My thoughts race unconfined
To younger days where passion burns
Still brightly in my mind.

Then, when my mind is void of stress
As thoughts come to an end,
I slip off into nothingness
Where quiet is my friend.
When I awake, I start anew,
With attitude refined.
Thank God for precious times I spend
In hallways of my mind.

Hey there Balladeer! How are you? I really like this. But then, I love to read all of your poetry. I spend alot of time, In The Hallways of My Mind. Never thought of it as being the hallways of my mind.

Excellent write sir. This is ONE of the benefits of being 'older', there are more hallways to explore and as long as we don't get lost, we'll be ok. (And a nap can do wonders!)

I loved the peaceful flow and feel of this poem Michael. It suits the subject matter beautifully, like a soft and gentle winding road back in time.

I know and appreciate meandering along these hallways as well. One of these journeys take me back to a wonderful time in Cape Cod with some pretty special friends.

This is a lovely write, my 'Deer, much enjoyed.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

I see so many people sitting in hallways... anxious... ruled by nerves... waiting... not knowing.

This is so different from the thoughts that sprang to my mind... a peace in remembered knowing we all could use. *S* Beautiful work!!

~ and I am always thankful that I get to visit the hallways of your mind by reading what spills out of it and onto these pages of blue!

Good to read you again! I felt ~ and understood ~ the feelings behind the words.

I too walk hallways in my mind
To rest in rooms of memories
I know the path where I can find
Most precious views of fantasies

I close my eyes and in the dark
I see the films of past life flow
On special ones I put a mark
Because they've touched my heart you know

Would I not be just me today
If I'd turned right where left I went
The choices that I've made my way
Bring memories of times well spent

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you Deer for your beautiful thoughts.
And may the hallways of your mind stay accessible for a long time my friend.
Titia
I noticed one of those hallways locked, is that where you keep Toe and those other scoundrels? Only Joking. Thanks for a wonderful poem...Paul
so smoooooooooooooooth...
sighing
I always have to read your work several times...the first if for the pure pleasure of it, and then of course, I have to STUDY you yanno (still) and then I go back for another read of a combo "mmmmmmmmm & how does he do that" and then I remember what you taught me and read it again just to smile at the artistry. Deceptively simple, and folks, this ain't easy to do.
*shaking my head* Perfect meter always, the focus is tight but not constrained, with just enough play for a sigh.
I can only think of one other here at Pip that can do this, and that would be Kit.
and?
Just because I can.
beautiful...just beautiful.....
I have closed, locked and thrown away the key to many of the doors of my past...but that seems to lead to only a long lonely straight hallway...sigh....memories are precious, and worth hanging on to...and you say it beautifully
Serenity gal...yes, you sure can Thank you for putting me in the same company as Kit..THAT is a compliment!...and thanks for taking the time to read the poems and not just see them...you are appreciated
jellybeans, I think we all have hallways that lead to doors we would like to keep locked but I suppose the tapestry of our lives relies on every thread that composes it, each important in its own way. Thank you, K, for your thoughts
Hey sweet man... that MIND of yours isn't a hallway, it's a mansion of stories that you could tell at any minute that would leave us all breathless and begging for more.
I've always said that if most people have ghosts in their closets, then I must have a whole dang graveyard lol
Everynow and then, I visit them for a while
Great to know Im not the only one that goes back to yesteryear for a memory.
Great write
)))hugs(((
I can't believe I missed this!  It was such a gentle road you wrote and roamed here and I sure enjoyed the walk.  I too find the only escape from it all is sitting in a comfy chair, and letting my mind roll back to slower, more understandable times.  Great write as always.  You seem to make this look so easy until I actually try it!
