Some poets have to shout their words. Deep inside the heart of there meaning. Reaching into people, to shake them up To release the mind upon the words. Poetry will never be all about the poet. It will never illuminate one strict idea. It is the reader, who receives the benefit. In letting their own mind, find the key. If they say left, you must explore right. If they say arise, fall down on its meaning. Readers must ride the poet’s roller coaster. Exploring everything in between in clarity. If poets were perfect, there words would Evaporate as just ordinary conversation. But these words come from deep within The volcanic emotion of changing verse. Poets have lived from histories beginning To reside in the Bible in a true blessing. Making songs dance upon the winds of time. Make children sing in the rhyme of youth. Its voice is varied with the changing times From some of the great orators speaking out, To the last words of a soldiers greatest fears. Poetry is a love of an addiction to a dictionary. If as a free spirited terminated poet, I mention Things like abuse, war, intimidation, bigotry And so many more words of negative humanity, It is not that it gives me some sort of pleasure. For the truth is that it will condemn me to labels. People will say he is a sadist, an abuser, evil. In the tears of my soul, I hurt, feeling the wrath. For I have no one to stand up and say he is a poet. Because poetry to some is a vile subject, because The words in it bring out humanities biggest flaws. However, how do we learn if not by the examples. To teach only upon one side, will topple foundations. From the understanding of weakness comes strength. Comprehension of inherited flaws overcomes failures. Being liberal, you must understand and respect all views. Cringing when someone says you must be molded. For the truth is some conservativs would ban poetry. Because of the poet, subject, the fact it opens minds. They are right, we are not perfect nor will ever be! But we have explored our faith from heavenly words. For the mind is truly a tool to be expanded upon, Not dictated to as a child who will never grow up. Tell them the wrongs of abuse, make them so sick So that the love in them, will never lay a hand in harm, Or words inflicting tears, that tear the tears inside out. For love has to be America’s future in understanding. The differences we have in our great diverse country. That every poet has their own voice of independence. That preachers do not condemn ALL liberals as immoral. That art, artists must be accepted as talented Americans That the judge and jury of heaven, lies above and smiles. So I will shout my words, you can judge their worth For I await your judgment day as to their value and Before a gate upon my demise, I shall find the answer From the pure truth, that lies no more. Bless You from all the poet’s hearts. D.Lester Somewhere in America not on company time 03/29/05 © The Terminated Free Spirited Poet |

It is the reader, who receives the benefit. There is much of this I cannot agree with... but it's my disagreement with this line that surprises me most... for I'm an avid reader and can't imagine survival in a world where I couldn't read and learn from poetry... But my ego surprised me... for as I was nodding agreement with that line... it reminded me what release and affirmation I find in the writing... Reading leaves no footprints... it is the words I write that give me hope my existence will be remembered. Your poem is very thought-provoking... and led to some personal enlightenment... thank you! *S* |

One of the more smartly pieces I have ever read! Wonderfully layered and pertinently meaningful to poets and the like. |

To teach only upon one side, will topple foundations i agree with this line...different poeple (and poets too) may have different views... we won't know which side is right until we open our minds to ideas different from our own...a very thought provoking piece... i love the spontaneous flow of ideas |
