Late in life,
refined
by the catalyst of your soul,
I have found
in my own way,
in my own trials
on my own trails,
in cities’ lights
and back streets’ despair,
even in the barren wastelands
where high desert winds
yield no memory of footsteps
abandoned in the dust before me,
freedom in the life of intent,
in devotion
beyond the simplicity of need,
in accepting
the gift of complete surrender
I have learned I am other,
and other does not always approve
of me;
yet time itself is of less consequence
than choice,
and choice given freely,
an absolute with total possession
total abandon,
complete acceptance of your gift,
the gift of self,
and of love itself
beyond measure or degree,
cannot fail to set us free.
