Whispers come a little less kind like night
Tattered wings toxic, finds a perfect home
Pious diarrhea, ripping hay bales open
Exposing the child’s core
Like fat bloated rats who’ve just eaten
Metaphors of innocent nursery rhymes

“Go back and relax”, someone shouts
Turning their head toward a make believe sun
Waving an honorable mention
Of exotic oils that decayed rare albums
And a dozen or more tourists
Going back to those times…those screams
Frozen blameless blue
Frozen windows

“I’m sorry, I lied, must have been sleep walking”
Disregarding the object of mental state
Living in the mind…disregarding the child
Disregarding the sentinel like consciousness of
Every noise in the house
Disregarding, tearing flesh of body, mind, spirit…
Disregarding….

What kind of expression, takes from truth value?
When does intentionality become a menace to society?
Does then nine mean seven, seven mean nine?
When the child draws into a fetal position

Footsteps of Blood, occupies The fountain of youth~
Contaminated with slobbering razor sharp teeth of desire
And no one hears, no one cares
Fear touches every part of being…
Grouping hands sealing fates
Can no one feel their shame?
Their death, their sky is falling
Their screams or cries or see the black and blue
In their spirit, tears fall forming puddles
Until an ocean of pain pierces years
Leaving them to die all alone
Sharks feeding on them….

“Oh God, make me invisible, please”
The child silently preys…
Pulling the sheets over her head
As the doorknob slowly and quietly turns
Can’t someone hear this beating heart?
A heart scarcely breathing, knowing terror?
Five year olds, facing real monsters
Evil lurking in the shadows of her room
Gasping for the promise of safety
For the sound of children happily playing
Instead
Instead
Instead

She pretends she is a diamond
She must in order to forget
The invisible whip
Lashing her whole being
Crying to break the chains
To escape

Where are the caregivers?
and they try so hard to be good
So hard to please
So hard to be
innocent

written after hearing the most idiodic sexual abuse report...in anger, so please, bear with me.

So much to think about in your vivid images.  Well done!  Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Lee, this poem hits one with a sledge hammer!  There is not much in the world that makes me angrier than this and you pull out the child's perspective to the point that it makes me cry inside for it.  A hard read (not in words but that we don't want to face the reality of this) and an excellent, powerful write.  This should be the poster poem for child abuse.   ....jo

Great write Lee J
Painful truth.
Maddening topic,
but there is a need for this
to be said.
