in the shadows

When candles burn
in steady pace,
balanced
on Midwinter’s night,
the evening turns within itself,
churning,
chasing heady curls of promises
laced in clouds and woven
through the incense smoke,
as if enthralled by captives
entangled
in bindings of a private joke
spun and lost in history,
as if the drift of time itself
could be contained
within their pace,
as mystery
polished by the patient,
the pretenders in belief.

I no longer have church with others, but I think I'd make an exception for you.

It's the simple things that are best, Occam's Razor plays out with fractal intensity....the more we complicate, the greater the chance we're dead wrong.

The book's still open on this that you write of, but there's history and some of it goes back ten thousand years, for those with the patience (or something like patience) to delve that deeply.
