Hello, I have not logged on here since 1999. I was surprised that I could. I found my old poems here, and felt weird reading them. I am curious how they have held up over time, so I'm going to repost one of them. Hope you enjoy, and it's good to be back. I have not written any poetry since '99. I think it's time to start once again. A Winding Thin Gravel Road A winding thin gravel road Etched into mountain, And circling outside smoke and clouds Of fire filled air. A great expanse of sea from one view, A blind stone corner from the other, A guess as to what's to come. Our time with one another Is as this journey, Always guessing, exploring, And always searching. We watch the whales rise from the depths, Of a shallow bay, Half surrounded by cars and cameras, We fall for the land, And for each other. Dream away our hazy tomorrow, In sheltered evenings From long drawn days, Us land loved strays. Please will you follow me, Through every hardship, Through every cloud. And may we leave this paradise, The real and the imagined, And only look back, With one another at its center. |

Words of classic beauty and thought hold up well over time John. This is a lovely piece ... heartfelt and fluid. Very nicely written. I hope you do pick up the pen and write some more. I enjoyed this. Welcome back! Best wishes, /Kit |

Tyson...six years is far to long to go without writing. I know that, like myself, you found comfort and release in your poetry and for that reason, if none other, you should begin to write again. I, in turn, have grieved for the friend I once had who showed me the world through his words. Such a shame to have 6 years of wasted words never put to paper, 6 years of empty sheets. We Once Wrote Poetry We once wrote poetry as we lay entwined beneath weathered quilts where your fingers traced syllables onto the parchment of my skin In the dark before the light you moved over me like a dream all scent and touch and shadow as I swallowed your phrases long before they ever left your lips Together we found our rhythm stirring up needs that never seemed to still We once wrote poetry long after the sunsets afterglow and fell asleep dreaming that our words would last forever We once wrote poetry now all that remain are empty sheets I am nothing special...and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me,this has always been enough.~N.S |

Thanks everybody. I plan to get back to some writing. I tried it out a little this week, and I'm a little rusty, to say the least. Well, it's not like riding a bike I suppose. Ruth, That's a very good poem. I have emailed you once to say hello quickly, as I had to leave for work. I'll email again here shortly. |
