The Numbers on your arm
    stare back at me
and my stomach ties itself into knots
    full of nots...

not to forget
not to ever see this happen again,
not to allow millions to go silently

to be showered by hatred and death
rather than love and dignity.

(for Ruth, my numbered friend from Ein Ha'Horesh)

Hugs to you for your reply, Donna.
I shall never forget Ruth, nor any of the others I lived with in the Middle East. I have recently met a lady here locally who is a survivor of Auschwitz, though not of Jewish faith, her family was taken into custody for helping to hide some Jews. She is just beginning to tell me bits and pieces, and all of Ruth's story is coming back in waves...as are the stories of my ex's Austrian Jewish family, many who never made it out alive, some who disappeared without a trace, and some...whose last days were recorded.

Geez, Kacy, I just watched "The Pianist."

Thank you for keeping us in check.

I used to work with a woman named Ruth who had different repercussions from all of that, from the Russian soldiers, she was German.  And if you ever get a chance, listen to Creed's "What's This Life For?"  Makes me cry every time.
