He wasn’t at all famous
No one here knows his name
No songs of love or poetry
Nor athletes hall of fame

His smile was always charming
His voice velvety like morning dew
Words of kindness always spoken
Life’s rose tints were his only view

What was the straw that broke him
That held firm and chilled his soul
Intemperate words of prejudice
Achieved their heinous goal

You’ll never know his name here
Nor meet him later in life
He’ll never be a husband
With children and a wife

He may not have been a hero
In the final hours of his death
Still I sing this nice man’s name
With soft and grieving breath

***

I don't write much anymore as my inspiration seems to be gone. I envy all of you who can write every day (sometimes more than one poem!!). Sadly, the inspiration for this poem came from the death of a very good man. A friend for 17 years. Someone who didn't deserve the hand he was dealt.

Rest in peace.

It is hard not to get close to those we work with and enjoy, so when something does happen to them, it feels like loosing a family member.  I am sorry for him, his family and for you too.  A nice poem in his memory Sharon.

Well you wrote a good one here. Just keep running with it while it flows. It's a great tribute to Everyman if to no one specifically. Good to see you again (I'm one guilty of hogging the board since 11-3 and this forum where I must have 50 stacked up by now, but it could go at anytime and I may fall silent for several months again)

There are so many "nobodies" in the eyes of the world who are special "somebodies" to those who know them....and they are worth their weight in gold. Thank you for this tribute to one of them....I'm sure he was special.

He is no longer an unknown, for you have somehow left us with a piece of him within this heartfelt tender write.
Good to read your heart again.
