soon to be supper simmered
as the sun went to the town side
of the rooster grady's pen
I spun the handle on ol betsy
at the hydrant at the corner
and watched the river
from darral's farm get lower
as his mud crop grew

jody sue milked the goats
and made butter from their yeild
lil barney helped with the crocks
wore his davy crockett hat
that the chickens pecked
til the tail was shot
with a musket ball
at the alamo he said

the crows are back again
talking to the other me
on the stick there at the corn
them bibs were more friendly
then these, from sears
they got cheaper buttons
that don't stay hooked
in the snap ring

when barney climbs his daddy tree
looking for quarters in pockets
to give to the coin wrap machine
that is his banker
for college some day
if they ever let me out
from behind these bars
and the prision of my mind

love the image of the little one climbing the daddy tree for coins - happy childhood memories - overalls and farms, haystacks and wheat fields - hanging out in the loft and jumping off barn roofs - yeah - happy childhood memories -

enjoyed this tumble, D - the images let me walk scraped knee and barefoot again -

DS

I agree with Sunshine...really liked your style in this...so believable and real, yet full or your original way of writing with a sensitive pen.
