(Tang) Wang Wei* To Remind You of Me In the south the red berries grow, When it's springtime, On the branches there might be a few. Pick as much as you could, To remind you of me, For it most likely would. *Wang Wei,701-761, a Chinese poet during Tang dynasty. Translated by Laoha (X. M. Translations are a real talent and there's quite a future there for the bi-lingual attuned to poetry's nuances. Rhyming must be exremely difficult (I think of Robert Pinsky's translation of "The Inferno of Dante") Looking forward to more. Poets against the war is redundant |

Wang Wei (Gary Blankenship, Translator) Deer Park In the empty mountains, no one; but the sound of men echoes. Light returns to the dark forest to illuminate moss and leaf. Bamboo Grove Alone in a bamboo thicket, I strum a guitar and sing. In this dark wood, no one knows me; my company the moon’s reflection. Luan House Rapids Autumn rain and wind gusts strike the boulders below. The rapids’ waves collide - startled egrets rise, settle. Hsin-i Village From bud to the trumpet blossom, scarlet petals cover the mountain path. The hut streamside abandoned, a shrub blooms, sheds, blooms again. Lily Magnolia Enclosure Evening’s light falls on autumn hills. As bird after bird follows in flight. Fisher green colors the cool air. In the day’s late mist, there is no rest.
