On the day I met your father He said "he would never be there" Fighting to put my foot On the doorstop Until he extracted a promise "To always see you were ok" Daddy's girl always Tolerated in thin strips Of time decorated With the returning of ships Containing hopes of future Voyagers On foreign shores Always behind the back 2 weeks on routine Every word as nice As a snake has ever seen Never heard the words Too gentil for me They ate their food like wolves I ate mine Sight unseen Finishing the soup As they moved into pudding Eating to live On wind Of a cushion So we bowed and left Bright red kisses To show to the neighbours Signs were not missing Directions on the car I ignored in passion Since my father-in-law Seemed to feel luck Was smashing If only sense would find Something truly common People would find A life In delight Of thoughts Deeds Honour But above all They dont take the pain Out on others |
