"How much did it cost tonight?"

"Eleven dollars, eighty one."

"This is every other night,"

I nodded, mumbling, "I know--
but there are things I need..."

He checked the clock
and told me that
in fact
I was due more relief--
he took a blue pill from his coat
and bit in half the line that marked
the addict from the pimp:

"You know, when you are gone," he said,
"I'll never know another witch.
It will be, just them and me,
because, you know, I have been sick,
and have no need of woman now."

"I know." I said. I stuck my tongue--
out - as I, received my host
and died again, third time, I crossed
myself
and prayed the bells of ole
St. Mike's--
I counted steps within the well,
thinking landings counted twice -

as the mice
held tight
the walls
as my husband turned his back
auditing the miles...

I said

there are things I need....

Sometimes we see the comment, "good, as usual..." which is fine...

but you are never, ever "usual"...

but always Unique.

these words serve as a reminder that we all have confessions...

who are any of us to judge another?

love you Karen.

Serenity...Another masterpiece from a master of poetry and sometimes master of illusion with words.

We all walk the steps of hell at times
With only our need to reach the other side
our driving force. Enjoyed very much...Paul

*hugs* ..... I was going to respond here with a bit of a pun but decided against it.  No, that wasn't the one.  This is much too deep a well to play in.  No that wasn't the one either.  I hope the only well you stay in very long is an ink well.  No, that wasn't it either.  Anyway, obvious your writing always reaches me, Karen.    more hugs, jo
