in the shadows

0 posted 2005-01-15 07:35 AM

In this pre-dawn haze
of aches and pains,
just glad the rains have gone,
for now,
with cold descending
grinding through
the icy purple ridge line
of the ancient coming sun,
my brain is organizing
hated chemicals
to blunt the razor shards,
the broken bottle edges,
my body’s recollections
of what it costs to move
in fits and starts
across the stage of life;

my mind sits in the shadows,
sidelined,
a tired jester,
capuchin clown
to the crowds of voices
echoing in the galleries
in the theater of my memories;

as much as pain distracts,
it gives me early mornings
to spend alone
with my own ghosts,
before the living in my little world
awake to claim my time.

I can feel you waking to the cold and the pain and solitude.  I hope that you feel better now!

Funny how I love my solitude, but it took years of lonliness to finally realize the importance of this time and space.  Loved this write Ice.

Every night...every single night of the world. A different balance sheet but the same reckoning, the pain from different sources, but still the kind aspirin can't find...and the ghosts...different too, and you'd be amazed if I named some of them, but a haunting nonetheless. We're three time zones part, but in some ways very, very close.

No such thing as coincidence, I've heard.  Always insightful.   .....jo
