“The fear of the Old Man was the beginning of social wisdom”
-H.G. Wells ‘The Outline of History’
.
.
.
.
You feared not your ol’ man Absalom
and so feared not his god or his legend.
Herb could only go by what was written,
preserved by jealous misogynists, wimp
scrolled and hid to overthrow “history
is written by the conquerors” while dispersed
in fear or denial, translating women’s
natural puissance as something unclean

We’d have fared better following Superwoman
comic books than these insane myths foisted
on the ignorant. Back room connivers
who never ruled anything of note but dare
suggest their history is Mans, quilled brutes
threatened by easier beliefs that predated
the conspiracy, that of an umbilical goddess

It was to mold our fear to their image,
to suggest wisdom was cryptic, covert,
only understood at the font of certain urinals.
Your father David ignored your sisters
rape by your half-brother and on a cold dish
you served up righteous vengeance, too ignored
by the ol’ man who you then challenged

But the big money was on their man
and so the dangling death, hair knotted in an oak,
twisted into the lessons passed from nebbish
scribes in caves to pocket protectors
in conclaves, bifocaled  admonishers
claiming inner sanctuaries as men’s clubs.
They teach you as vain, disrespectful, greedy

A softer, gentler, yes feminine man
came along and they nailed him to a tree.
His message made sense but weren’t the shekels
of their power, not enough exclusions ,
too damned honest, unassuming, selfless.
The myths broke like a thermometer
but regrouped like beaded mercury,
poison women to this day and so we all

observe, absorb, absolve

You know, your frank honesty, integrity in writing the truth, utter brilliance, and use of the English language never cease to amaze me Richard.  Sometimes I wonder if you and I speak even the same language?  You are doing absolutley incredible writing lately, so send up some of what you're having will you?

I really enjoy what comes out of what you read a lot.

Smiling here...

the "thinkers" in my life
keep showing me the same thing...

I do believe
I'm getting a message.
