Sunrise

Before I knew the woman
Beauty was your name to my heart,
Etched from the moment I first saw you;
But fate had other plans for your love
And mocked my heartbreak with memories of your smile.

My dreams promised me a favor
If my thoughts spoke fondly of you,
And though the years passed
And time offered me gifts of beauty dressed in hope,
My nightly slumber took me to real happiness
Where you and I danced upon the stars
Making the heavens cry purple and crimson rain,
A magical scene that caused even fate to shed a tear.

Time is a place of thoughts and reflection
So upon the hands of time I wept,
A decade of salt and what-ifs
That burned a hole into the past;
And there you stood expectantly,
As beautiful as the morning sun,
With a smile that warmed my soul.
