I stood
and waited
(for you)

summer
was ready
to lie down,
her corn
wiggling free
off the sky ladder,

and i stood
and waited

anticipating
in lips blushing
candy pink

dressed in
a schoolgirl's
moonshaped smile

as maryjanes
grew tall
into stilettos,

and i walked the world
between
l8 and 49

an aging goddess

in a shamless dance of desire

longing with ache
for a boy born
on the nations's
bicentennial

i stood blushed pink
in peony printed dress
with a radioactive heart
that poured neon bright

in white laceups
3 inches too high

like a hooker
i stood
on a corner

watching corn climb
on its last rites,

only to fall
like an overtired
overused rhyme

thinking pink

watching corn

(and you never showed up)

a tired goddess

climbing to fall

fooled by
the wink
of heaven

into the blink
of l8
becoming 49

in a wrinkeled mirror
with dropping parts,

corn husks
dishevelling

a thud upon the ground;

i took a tumble,

but loved so

the pink
of the drama,

never feeling
the heart,
hurt
so sublime.

Excellent use of color in poetry...love it

When a women speaks "pink" it raises something primal in a man...especially if it is a sad "pink", it makes a gentle man want to hug her...

Doug Tanoury says it better than I in his poem "Pink Font"

"...Talk to me only with a tint of pink words
Whispered on the ether of each exhale
And floating weightless
On the warm vapor of each breath
For I am helpless and entranced
Possessed and driven by each letter
And word and phrase and line"

Perhaps it is also a calling on of the primal man within, that wants to save the "pink" from something?

I felt that way when I read this...

The poems short lines add to the intensity of the subject matter...good job, inky

I agree with Ice this is a very involving write.
You are good, very good!
And ...49 is seven times seven, which means absolute LUCK...... and in your case so much true Beauty!
Love and hugs.

i dig the corn
corn is ancient life, nice symbolism,
wisdom with a honest profoundness, (sp?)(not the greatest speller)
it seems to me like you are wise womyn with a great sense of humor.
kindly,
amelia

I kid you not, I kept copying and pasting parts of your poems that I absolutely adored ~ and realized that I was copying the whole poem! This is another of your poetry for my treasure trove. I love the creativity and the realness of your writes. You have an amazing amount of talent. You simply have to get books of your poetry published!

Pretty in pink - no matter the time line - enjoyed this and the bite of realism that lay just beneath the pastels -

Am a woman of black myself - perhaps I shall have to write black -

Well done talented poetess-

Marvelous!

you look great in Pink Inky, but then, you'd look great in any colour.

Enjoyed immensely

it's a keeper
