Between the Lines

Effort of My Between (repost)

Eyes followed the bright lights on high
from destinations unknown,
the crisp air clearing thoughts
that constantly shadow my own,
dulling an ache that cannot be relieved
for now.

Have I told you how even the slightest gesture
plays on my tomorrows and even though alone,
I haven't given up in finding
that corner of the world in which I fit.
How thankful that I am, that I can still reach for the stars,
although the eyes of the past
read like fences, making boundaries
for me to slip through or climb over.

These legs are caught between compromise,
weakened by dedication and fatigue
of pedaling faster to that secret place
where all thoughts search for tranquility,
a serenity of afterglow, where peace is the softness
of fingertip against cheek, lips to lips,
eyes taking in eyes
in a world of Between...

No night or day, just experiences that poet me
with tattoos unseen, breaking out once in awhile
in a dance of need.
Need that tucks that Genie away,
making reality set in, guiding me to truth,
pushing me to an end, etching me in a hold
that illusion cannot touch.

I see her as my reason, the pleasure of my talent,
the effort of my between, spinning me into todays
to keep from the dark side of tomorrow.
I regret nothing, as I sell myself in sisterhood
and garner the return
knowing sticks and stones could break our bones
but together, names can never hurt us.

M

Thank you Margherita.
It's always nice to have you read and respond to my words.

Snow, thank you for the website visit and your kind words. There are times I don't know why or what I write and am often surprised if I go back and look over the words wondering...did I really write this?

I wrote this one, for my sister who at the time was diagnosed with lung cancer, among needing a new liver...so the transplant was out and it was just a matter of living and sharing her time the best we could.

She passed away this summer but is always in my mind.

Thank you both.

Maureen

p.s. my web pages are so old, I have to laugh when I read the poetry from when I first started writing.
