Beneath the bough of life’s disdain I wait in calm repose, acceptance like a picnic spread alongside in the shade. Apples, peaches, apricots, perhaps rather now a plum rich and juicy, delicate, like memories of love while time rolls slowly by with father, mother, son, up to a distant plateau I’m not conscious of. Here, stay awhile with me, feel how easily I breathe and smile up to the sun my gratitude for love. An apricot for you, I’ll peel apples, peaches, too, and there we sat a minute more remembering it all before time ran out on me and I waved a “See you later” from beneath my shady tree. And later, much later, from the fruit of my desire rich and juicy plums like memories of love still tempt my appetite! |
