Museums are no help at all Never have been They, churches, libraries And other houses of Imponderabilia Always leave me leaving With more questions than answers On a good day though You can have one to yourself Or nearly With your footfalls and mutterings Heard only by a disinterested guard You can find yourself In an anteroom Staring into a glass box Containing household bric a brac From a time before man had a name Pots, shards, fetishes, bones And tools And you are taken by one flint In particular, from amid the jumble Perfect, as if knapped by a jeweler And unused, as if it were special Perhaps it was a gift for another An Elder A Chief A god? Or, could it have been The last such tool made to usher In an age of Iron In the great room, the ossuary You’ll be standing alone, gazing At the bones-made-stone Of large and ancient creatures Creatures, it seems to you Embarrassed to be there Unearthed, naked and pleading For you to dress them again But, you only walk away Wondering, exactly, what it was They turned their heads to see Just before they were turned to salt |

I like this very much... and I agree... museums, etc... even churches... become different places when the crowds are gone and the distractions are silent. *S* |

And you are taken by one flint In particular, from amid the jumble Perfect, as if knapped by a jeweler And unused, as if it were special Perhaps it was a gift for another An Elder A Chief A god? ~*~ Sometimes we never know but with our imagination, thoughts might soar into believabilities... Thank you, yeti. |

I love how you think and as a matter of fact, it's 2005, the year I tell all those I care about that I care, so, "Hey man you are a special breed!" |

Superb. I loved doing this in London. Now they are closing Libraries in San Francisco where the poor who cant afford charges get second best for a few more days. Why are American's trying to destroy knowledge. No-one can sit at a terminal day after day. It has been known for years that it screws your eyes up. Documents on the web is great but you need time and a place to read and Museums and Libraries were where you developed. The Internet is where you research, steal and don't have to walk further than a bedroom. Dave |

Oh, I like this indeed Give me a good museum to get lost in - would love to spend a good month or so in the Smithsonian - been to some of the biggies - such as the Louve- Adn Libraries - oh what a wonder - especially the big old ones that have as much ambiance as they do curiosities And book stores - the used ones - with two floors to meander Love old grave yards too with their ancient stones and rune speak - This was a wonderful poem - simply wonderful My favorite part is about the bones wishing to be redressed - what an incredible thought- Susan Every action generates a force that returns to us in like kind . . . let us choose compassion and love |

"Perfect, as if knapped by a jeweler And unused, as if it were special" I have found and collected quite a few of these over the years. They still invoke the same kind of wonder. An obsidian poem from an ancestor that says, "See, I really was here." Thanks for the write, man. CB 8) "If at first an idea is not absurd, there is no hope for it." |
