Up and down spirals clash
mine and yours and everyone’s,
moving sparks of energy
or thoughts in patterned flow.

Who passes me along the way,
who glides in my slipstream,
and no one answers,
they don’t know
two parts make up a whole.

Alone but not alone
I bid adieu to you and you
from fathoms deep
beneath the sea
where spirit waters roam.

Ah, my friends, I do but feel
nothing here makes any sense,
a vast hypnotic spell
or maybe hologram
to illustrate to you, you, me,
the same reality.

In flames one day the main frame burns,
all life we know regroups, mutates,
and so and so, our neighbours, friends,
perhaps to fish - dolphins, squid.

But I burn now to no avail
my brain on trails to no-man’s land
seeking more beyond the door
of who, what, where, and how.

Entwined within the spiral, life,
to care or not from whence, to where,
for scholars both are you and I
not yet advanced beyond pre-school!

And so ends another year – the wise no wiser, the poor still poor,
and whatever will be, will be.

Sometimes it does not make sense - and sometimes it feels as if it would be best just to get off the merry go round. Yet, I think that love - of spouse, child, friend, neighbor, those we don't know - that is what we are here to learn - the love of ourselves as well -

Susan - your reply has lightened my heart. I too most decidedly believe that we are here to know love and, yes, love ourselves as well. I nearly added something about love in my comment which would have been ... "love is still in the running". I think many merely give lip service to love for purely selfish reasons. Still, it is a hard thing to really know and understand in totality - requires a lot of thought. Thank you for the read.

Thanks, JL. Well, on the other hand, maybe if we knew a thing or two we could direct destiny. Thoughts are powerful things and made more so by right intent. Just another theory, of course.
