What a Difference….

quote:
December 29, 1904.
The Elks enjoyed an old-fashioned possum bake at the rooms last night.  Now, there are people in this world who don’t like possum, …moreover, they look with suspicion on anybody who does like possum, but there wasn’t anyone of that kind at the possum bake last night.
[Salina Journal's "Neighbors, This Week in History", "A Look Back".]

~*~

Tonight the pot held succulent
beef roast, celery, cabbage,
and mushrooms;

and still, I am not politically correct
for those who are enjoying only veggies,

or those enjoying strictly an all-meat meal;

or those who cannot find a meal at all.

Yet, I eye none with suspicion for their wants,
desires, and admire them that stand out,
peacefully pursuing their own lives,

and envy those who find fulfillment
and joy in the smallest things,

knowing that when we do what we want to do,
we are highlighting our own peaks…

every individual has a voice.

But to share with you the eyebrow
upraised over a meeting’s meal
a century ago, well, it
seemed the thing to do,

perspectively.

~*~

I may be a day or two early,
wishing you all everything you need
to find,

in aught five.

Thank you, Maureen...you have a brand New year...ok?

Kacy...always, dear, always...even if we see each other from the opposite side of the fence sometimes, that is what tolerance, patience, and understanding is all about...and I'm not speaking about us, but everyone in general...you have an open heart, and you always, always keep us informed of movements of the earth...

Martie...sissie...they are indeed the cutest of babies...I have held them, fed them from a baby's bottle...watch their human paw hands hold the bottle...watched them as they wash grapes, so very, very human in their approach to food...clean clean clean...

one might call a possum, and a raccoon, obsessed.... ...

[and the possum meat I ate?  Well, I was told it was something else...]

There's much of today's life sentiment in that article.  And wishing each other the best of '05 never gets stale.  Happy New Year, Karilea!  Ken
