(Author's note:  We all have friend or family with some heart issues.  This is for them.)

Ka-thump

Ka-thump, ka-thump, ka thump, ‘tis my tell-tale heart at work
All these many years it’s pumped, nor any day did shirk.
Within its brawny confines, each valve has done its part.
And yet, I know as years have flown that someday it won’t start.

My heart has seen me through some loves when I was sure ‘twas broken.
It must have cried a thousand tears when angry words were spoken.
I’ve felt it strain its tissue bonds when pride would have it swell
When child was born or first took step are prides I know quite well.

I’ve tried my best to treat it well; not taxing it too much
But must admit I’ve had my past with cigarettes and such.
The sweets and fries I crave have tried to have their merry way,
Although I’ve given in at times, they’re mostly held at bay.

The years are going by, it seems, more swiftly now each morn
I wonder when ka-thump will say “It’s time I give you warn.”
It’s all the life we have, you know, I hope your heart beats true
Please tend it well and listen close while it takes care of you.

Please let Ka-thump know we expect him
to be active for many years to come...

Hi Ken.
Very very wise words m'friend.
Indeed it is so simple to take care of our hearts..
and yet, at times we take the ka-thumping for granted.
Well done!!
Heart Hugs.

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

This is such a true poem, Ken. Our heart controls
us in so many ways.
This is a good thinking poem, Sir Poet.
Hugs, my friend,
Ethel

Ken

It's true, we often don't think of it until it gives us a sign, and sometimes that's too late.  You have a good strong heartbeat, my friend, I can hear it from here.  Wonderful poem!!

The heart - treat it well - it is the danger in my family - thus I have great respect for this oh so very important organ -

Enjoyed this -
