Did we start on the right foot? Then When I needed tiptoes to reach your lips In your spacious fireplace With a spiral staircase Ahhhh, could have stayed there till my sixties Or until our small boat with oars Stood on the back porch grilling steaks Which ever came first? You were a long spoon Mingling sugar with ice tea Did you know then? Extra seconds filled every hour With a slow Southern drawl You knew the secret to my questions Before I did Smells of vacation was corn on my plate You threw salt over your shoulder For Good Luck Watching the slow drip of morning Advertise blue grass for sail Purchasing a love seat With a sweet smell of chocolate I kept heading for the stairs You’d pull me back, we’d smile And giggle Picking grab bags Dabbing music behind our ears Running fingers through my ocean voice Smoothly, softly, we’d cuddle in the backseat Of sweet summer dreams… Rhythmic pulse in the mouth of the Bahamas Coffee looked up at us from the doorway Murmuring something about “Our pictures from the last weekend getaway Are ready” We raced to the car On roller skates Like dirty faced children I looked at you long and hard Crying tears of joy the entire time You said, “Why don’t you hang out here For a time” I replied, “I’d get bored and want to return To work” Nervously… It was all I could think of at the time… Torn between grasping the soft Reggie Bar Elementary School had just left out Ugly men braced me for impact Flipping me into the air, wildly You did the same thing In a different way. With deep voice and drawl You still hold me in your pockets I look towards a kitchen One we both cook in…together Feeding each other fresh herbs The face on the knee of our Love, smiles like an incandescent bulb Holiday gave me a bear hug 24/7 Opened mouthed selling drugs How is it, I wandered into your neighborhood? Like 4 Jacks decorating a store front You paid my bail With soft kisses on the back of my neck They were deliberate then But not nearly long enough… You escorted me through Heavy thick doors Ones of which now are opened wide I wish though, I knew, the face Waiting for me on the other side Or if, he’s really real Tempered now, perhaps what English would call refined Perhaps someday I’ll be someone’s “Mine” Now that I know the moon’s face At close hand |

LeeJ I get-into reading these kind of poems that shake rattle and roll me up and down---because, because--it's unique and speaks volumes utilizing words and phrases not every day done! Yay! Good girl. ;-) Atov~ |

Enjoyed this verse the most. Well done happy holidays. |
