He’s six years old
and doesn’t know why
his mom wants him to pee
in a cup
rather than the toilet

or why
her boyfriend’s eyes
roll back in his head
sometimes

or why
all grownups lie.

I point out
the best lights to him
as he leans forward
against the belt,
and scans the radio dial
for Christmas songs.

‘Wait’, he extends his hand,
‘I think this is one,
let me listen to the voice.’

I smile to myself,
knowing exactly what he means,
that Perry Como, Bing Crosby, Burl Ives thing,
we both recognize
so many years apart.

I’d save him if I could
but that is not my privilege

instead I buy him Yu-Gi-Oh cards
and hope that he remembers
someone loved him.

He'll know
and seek you out

and remind you
of things
you may
have
forgotten.

You give him what he needs and surely he will remember, your smile and your love.

Touching.

Love, Margherita

There should be more people like you in this world Dunc.
...and less who have to live like Daryl.
A very touching write.
Merry Christmas Duncan.

....and Duncan?

Don't worry...he won't ever forget you.

Daryl is lucky to have you and you are lucky to have him...

Have no doubt you are each teaching and giving to each other.

Oh my, Duncan.
There is so much written in here, you sweet man.
I knew all along that you're tenderhearted and
caring, but this one caught me by surprise.
Please give Daryl a hug for me. And, here's
one for you too.
Hugs,
