The Wind Of Change Is A God Driven Car |

Nature has switched gears, Things once far, are now near; Arriving on the winds of change, As if they were God driven cars. What once was green is brown, And gray with white between Where snow-has pasted, ice to ground; Such is a field, in winter seen. * Where...tan-grass shivers In winter drafts, it can't deny; Broke at the waist, leaning lee Knowing not why, yet it tries, (to stand) Seed head bare, bent at the knee. The swallows have left the sky space, Empty of their grace-ful dartings When they chased, invisible offerings; The fire of frost, has burnt up, insect wings, And now the cold air serves up empty plates. But I see that winter birds descend As Boreas throws-out his coaches brake... Juncos light, heads down, they land All eyes on tickish seeds there spread, Scattered from the heads of bromes; Thankful that their ride is at its end. The freezing horses, chomp their bits; And so the winter God exclaims "Here is where you all must wait, For my companion, Notus, driving-forth A warmer car; and in it, you must get, And ride with him back-north, in spring." |

Juncos light, heads down, they land All eyes on tickish seeds there spread, Scattered from the heads of bromes; Thankful that their ride is at its end. ~*~ Even the redbird comes to sit I am greeted with song, ter-wit the chirp of pleasure, such as seen upon a winter morning's dream... Ah, Ford, thank you for this inspiration... I have been waiting all morning for inspire, and I see you have placed the log to fire so I shall watch the dancing burn and let the thoughts of lexis churn... |

Karileashine "I shall watch the dancing burn and let the thoughts of lexis churn..." Dang, that says it all, that is exactly what we all must do... The inspiration for this poem came while waiting at the school bus stop.. The meadow was there, but only a memory of swallows...The wind died and the Juncos landed...just like the redbird came to sit and ter-wit.. Thank You... * Chrisshade That is my favorite stanza in the poem.. I am sometimes amazed at all the moaning about the weather in winter..and how everything looks dead..it is a time to rest and rejoice, and offers up some of the best poetic inspiration of the year....And also gives us Christmas... At Christmas I no more desire a rose Than wish a snow in May's New-fangled myrth; But like of each thing that in season grows.. (W.Shakespeare) Thanks for your reply.. * Dixieshadows Focus on a meadow, you will see how when Boreas brakes his coach, the birds descend..I am witness to this... "damn!", what a beautiful sight Thank you |

into my library *smiling* I watch as the Canadians (geese) land upon nearby pond or field and thank the skies for not believing the lies I was once told about the cold harshness of winter's freeze and I remember my days in Alaska, often upon my knees, kneeling beneath frozen trees thanking someone for dark eyed jubilant Juncos and noisey rambunctious Chickadees, for those gracefully bowing grasses that make the coming of Spring all the more precious a song to sing. Thank you, for this write and the inspiration. |

Hi Ford It was 80 degrees here in California today...it's hard for me to imagine the cold of elsewhere. I do love the warm, but would like to wake one morning here, like I did when I was seven, to a lawn blanketed in white. You are an amazing poet! |
