in the shadows

0 posted 2004-12-11 10:42 AM

I’m staring at fossils,
shadows of life gone,
echoes and time tricks,
with never a tear
shed for changes,
millions of years gone
as if all their purpose
was to say, “I was here,”
although all kith and kind
have vanished
on the learning trails
on which all life forms wander
as we learn awareness
never builds the ties that bind,
nor does knowing answers
bring us peace of mind.

It’s coming on to Christmas time,
I should point out
Santa was a pagan too,
the twinkle in his eye
comes from within
and what he knew,
for reasons of my own
my hair is grown quite long
and now that my full beard
is turned fully white,
young children with big eyes
dragged out to go shopping
often tug at Mom-sleeves
when I come into sight.

It’s lunchtime back in Amsterdam
and you’re asleep in Mexico,
I’ve been awake since four AM
dreams too desolate you know,
this bubble we call modern times
won’t survive
when coming change winds blow
and all around me will be gone,
I hope you’re safe in Mexico.

Very interesting write.

Love that last verse.

Mexico won't be exempt but I suppose you can always hope that long lost love will make it through.........Damn heart will squeeze you into memoryville everytime.

I'm not certain it will be safe anywhere. Most judeo christian holidays were placed to block the view of equinox, solstice or any time where man, when much wiser and closer to the seasons and the ground, paid tribute to that blessing we now ignore, mother earth. Enjoyed

As usual, your posts keep me coming back for more.  I sometimes wonder why people sometimes forget the real meaning behind Christmas, I cant help it sometimes this time of year, catholic stuff, lol.  Enjoyed very much sir.

I totally agree---isn't it remarkable how quickly it passes? Each day slipping into the next as we fail to cherish the events, until it disappears---leaving us wondering where did it go? Thanks for reminding me to notice now, for truly isn't that all we have?

Iceman, you write with such wisdom and knowledge,
and I very much enjoy it....even when I can't
find the right reply to answer.

Psssstttt....I'll bet those little kids really
do think you're Santa Claus, with the long hair and beard!! HeeHee!!

Amen.

some people never know and others know and it just doesn't bring them what they thought it would.
