Eighty Three
I’ve reached the age of eighty three My ride is now economy Each day I feel a small let down An ache, a pain, a mirrors frown
My steps are slower as I go A thinking process of past sow A don’t or wont or maybe do But much more careful is my view
It’s not that I will not take chance Or fear has placed me in a trance But rainbows are a mist mirage Placed upon a skies collage
And I am weary to the core The paradox of evermore And place my footsteps one by one Until the path is lost or won
Though my aids help hear and see My mind is now a lesser me.

I beg to differ.
You're of an age that's mellow and kind full of wisdom keen of mind
Your wits intact your words still flow and you have miles and miles to go
Sy, you are ageless.

Eighty-three?? No way!!! You are as spry and young as ever m'friend. Methinks you have stayed looking and acting so young by writing and keeping your mind alert. Or...maybe, just maybe it could be the tea, ya think? Have a great day my Sy guy! ~Morning hugs & tea, Nancy~ Season's Greetings!

I didn't read the other comments but I'd say you're telling it like it is in this piece.
Reality with honesty makes for great poetry too.

Sir Sy,
I too beg to differ with you. IF your mind is faltering, then us young whippersnappers better put our noses to the grindstone and get to writing really hard. You still have that touch that we all admire and enjoy.

Bravo! Good for you Seymour,I understand that your age might slow you down, and you are more cautious, but the idea of not being placed in a trance of fear has great appeal to me... a good poem this is, regardless of the age of the poet..

Sy, if you can write a poem with the quality and wisdom this one has, you are still in good shape, believe me. I'll be drooling and eating pablum at 83!
You have one of the greatest excercise plans in existence - Isabel keeping you on your toes!
Every day that passes we all get older. You are in good company

I cannot tell you enough how much I love your poetry. If I can write half as well as you when I'm 83, I will have accomplished much in my life.

Well now when you were just a young 82 I couldn't manage to keep up to you. Remember Martha's Vineyard and our walk You had me in stitches with your talk.
Your wisdom and wit is what keeps you fit, For alertness there's always an Isabel hit!
You sir, are one of the sweetest people in this entire world, and will live a long, long time yet.

Seymour, you have found the fountain of youth, I think. Your poetry shows it. My Dad is 83 and my Mom is 82. They don't look their ages either. And, I sometimes think they get around better than I do. Love must keep people young...like you and your Isabel, and my Mom and Dad. Below is a picture of them....... Hugs to you, sweet man..... As years go by, we all release Those things of youth. They simply cease. But yet we ask that we may live Enough of mind that still we give.
Happy birthday to a great giver. Thanks, Mr T.

My mother is eighty-three, too. She claims she is becoming forgetful, but it doesn't seem like it to me! She is much keener at 83 than I have ever been. I think you're extra-ordinary, too! Have a good day, Sy. It's good to be able to stop in and see you again. (I wish I could spend more time at Piptalk and visit with my internet friends!) miscellanea

You may not wander off that quick And movements will slow down a bit But never think that you are old Not even when your head's gone bold
Your spirit's young and stayed behind The age of limbs and in that light Don't think of all the years gone by But enjoy the years ahead of you Sy
Your spirit gives us lasting joy In reading all the things you wrote And spirits never die my friend Because to Poet's Heaven they're send
So don't you worry about old age It's only your body reaching that state You're mind will never be lesser than you Not even when you reach ninety two
