You picked wilting lilies because the world was already too dark and they had no need to die alone. I think I saw you cry as your cold-sweat hands cupped them. And I looked again because you’ve always had such ferocious eyes. You laid them in the dirt and quoted Longfellow. But I didn’t understand reading a psalm of life to the dying. I almost interrupted but you seemed to find purpose in burying the dead as if it was a close neighbor or maybe your brother. And you spoke to death like that. In empathetic tones far from anger, like… you simply understood. He was a man of sorrows ...I am a girl of tears. |

The Swan This laboring through what is still undone, as though, legs bound, we hobbled along the way, is like the awkward walking of the swan. And dying-to let go, no longer feel the solid ground we stand on every day- is like anxious letting himself fall into waters, which receive him gently and which, as though with reverence and joy, draw back past him in streams on either side; while, infinitely silent and aware, in his full majesty and ever more indifferent, he condescends to glide. Rainer Maria Rilke Translated by Stephen Mitchell http://plagiarist.com/poetry/3301/ Cheap source for good poetry. |

Ser, As long as you mean it (and I suppose by now I should assume you do.) ![]() John, yep, that pretty much hits it on a certain edge. Thank you for taking the time to choose a poem to add here. Good stuff... Always, Alyssa He was a man of sorrows ...I am a girl of tears. |

You picked wilting lilies because the world was already too dark and they had no need to die alone. ================== that verse alone is poetic gold... what an opening hook ... And I looked again because you’ve always had such ferocious eyes. very very cool analogy.... You laid them in the dirt and quoted Longfellow. But I didn’t understand reading a psalm of life to the dying. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And you spoke to death like that. In empathetic tones far from anger, like… you simply understood. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a feeling this comes from the same muse as your "you remind them of funerals" ... and like that poem, its another very fine write. Considering all the poems I read, the fact that I can recall the title will tell you the impact it had. I believe this style and muse is something that will continue to develop as you explore it both emotionally and poetically. Some muses just come to us like that..and we couldnt quiet them if we wanted to, but me thinks you already know that. ![]() |

JM, wow, thanks for pullin this one up. Always love how you take the time to analyse a poem and give great replies. And yep, I'm amazed and honored that you remember that other poem. I liked that one a lot more, but yep this is from the same muse. I did sorta just start writing this style so I do hope it improves... most likely up and down better and worse, but that's fine by me... I don't like everything I write but sometimes I just need to get it out and hey, I'd be lying if I said all my writing was for others to enjoy... It's cause I need to clear my head! Thank ya much for taking the time ![]() LeeJ, maybe not quite that, but thank you nonetheless! Too kind! ![]() Always, Alyssa He was a man of sorrows ...I am a girl of tears. |
