The freshness of a Buck
Doesn’t come with a dollar
But rather, my big Clifford pup
Wearing a green web collar.

He was a gift
Hounded by my sister
For on her birthday she requested
A gift for Me
Found at the humane shelter

I thought and thought
About her push but
Questioned,  “What the rush?”
Another dog
The hurt could never hush.

If you know my sis,iliana,
She has a will of iron
She kept on bugging me
until I figured she’d just
never quit her tryin’.

I tried to on her birthday
But too much dying close.
A week later on the road,
Guess where my daughter goes?

(She missed him as much as I.
                        For her benefit I would
                         Try,
                         Just a “look”!)

Passed the terriors,
Irish Setters, German Shepherds
Paper trained wetters
There pranced Buck.

The dirtiest, smelliest dog
Molting of auburn feathers
Rubbing a hole on top of his head
Dancing at the gate.

    “Sorry, old Guy.
To even qualify for a ride:
      You’d have to be female,
      Small, preferably black,
      and definitely,
      Short hair upon your hide!”

Around the pound again
To same cage she stopped;
“Ineligible, the stinky mutt
Certainly, a not!”

On the way to the lumber yard
With son a different day
He motioned at the shelter,
Just a block away.

Through each alley
Several times he went
Then within the smelly cage
Sparkling blue eyes spent.

Sorry, old Guy, you’ll never do
You shed so much and you P.U.!
Your hair’s too long and it ‘s red
I had in mind a black instead.

Three weeks had passed
Safe at last…
No dogs or
Doghair on my pants!

The day of destiny soon to come
Hubby driving just
had to take a “peak”
meandering to the dog of rust.

     Sorry, old Guy, seems everyone
Wants you to become our family pet.
Just look at that mile long tongue,
Droopy jaws, you’d always be slobbering wet!

My husband got the lead
Even with such explaining
The dog had a dancing life
How could  I be complaining?

Took him on a walk outside
He lifted leg to territorize
what he’d like to keep.
Oh, NO!
On me, he took a leak!

Suppose no way of getting around it
Three picked the Clifford
Unknowing any one had!
And, Buck branded me
So I
Smelled twice as bad!

Oh, this was a joyful read -- thank you for sharing --

Sunshine,
Yes, the way of love!  Thanks for reading about my special pup!
                 misc'e

Susan,
This big pup is truly joyous!  He has such life about him.  He's hilarious, too.  As I attempt to put the chain on his collar, he grabs the handle of the chain and plays tug-of-war, walking me instead!
   Thanks for your kindness.
                 misc'e

Sy,
Glad it pleased you.  I appreciate your response.  Have a good evening.
                misc'e

Serenity,
I've been called many things, but I imagine dog-lady really suits me!  So you're guilty of bringing home every homeless dog, too?  I bet you have lots of fun and a big dogfood bill!
  Thanks for your delightful response.
              misc'e

passing shadows,
What are you trying to do, Lady, build my ego?  I think you're pretty ok, too!
             misc'e

iliana,
I blame this poem on you plus any damages that may be incur.  You should see my yard!  He recently discovered the livlihood of moles, and just had to seek them out.  As to finding them, he hasn't yet, but if he keeps this up, B and L will have an inground swimming pool!
  Glad you insisted, Sis!

TD,
Norman Bridwell is great!  I love his books.  They have such imagination!  Thanks for stopping by TD. See you soon.
                    misc'e

Scorpio,
"A funny write."  No greater compliment could anyone give me.  Glad it struck your funnybone.
                    misc'e

Margherita,
Did I hear cat?  We have a few of those around, too!  One of these days I'll write a prose about Caitlin Kitty, what a corker!
Glad you got the feel of StarBuck.

g,

Yeah, Buck has become one of the family.  We just drove to visit my daughter at college with you know who sitting on my lap for 2 1/2 hours!  What a BIG baby!  He's a head taller than I am in the car!  (It most be hilarious to watch.)   Give that mutt of yours an extra scratch behind the ear from me!
   Glad you enjoyed.

LOL... Sometimes we choose our pets... other times, they seem to choose us... Inevitably, it's a good match when they choose you... though maybe you could do without the marking? LOL

Enjoyed this!!!

Suthern,
Definitely could have done without the marking!  The darn dog did it just to humble me, I bet!
