Skateboards

I want to hear my little boys call out for me at the
super market, "Dad, buy me some gum.  Dad, look
at this, we should buy it, don't we need some."
I want to walk with them to the liquor store
to buy them baseball or football cards amd
watch them get all excited when they find a star.
I want to carry them on my back or my shoulders,
teach them how to ride a bike, point out the
squirrel and the frogs while on a nature hike.
But I can't because now they are men,
but I still miss the precious times we
would spend together way back then,
before they wanted to hang out with their friends,
before school and skateboards and between
girlfriends, before the divorce brought
our world to an end.

Thank you passing shadows and Lee J...although I've written others on this subject, this is one that I've been wanting to write for a long time...such beautiful memories of that period of time with some sadness tossed in...I am proud of my three sons...they are fabulous...James
