Where Now, When Home? ©2004 C.G. Ward if they grazed on silence, would the loss sustain? is life in the battle-dole enough to sieve protein from a canteen born(e) the distance of maturity? and when the moon shines crimson skies over a desperate desert night, summer shall be defiled – like a girl-child, robin-hooded (un-maiden); castrated in the month of sprung. for solace has yet to equal solidarity while the solidity of solitude continues to murder the undead soldier. -----//----- for he marches this spring, bound for the glory of dust and fear and searing enmity. who will shelter this boy, while his mother tests her tears? forlorn, - a civilization away - studying a map bedecked with colorful pins, each denoting where he was... a month in the past, a past in the month. she wonders: “where now & when... home?” |

"grazing on silence"... I'm swallowing a lump in my throat with this write, Chris. And push pins plotting the course brings the scene into heart tugging sharp focus. |

I'm not sure if I "got" it--but it made me think of my nephew, now stationed in Afghanistan. He doesn't feel like a hero burning down poppy fields as he understands he just destroyed a family business too. He wants to come home too, and nobody will ever understand what he is feeling right now, so he just says he's fine, but homesick. Thanks for this one C. Even if I'm off on the interpretation, it resonated that yearning of "home" that is an invisable thread of longing strung halfway cross the world. Come home, Nick. Thanks again Christopher. |

Christopher, I am in awe of how you poetically created this. It is so very deep, but still, it becomes one with the reader. Very much enjoyed your work and thoughts. misc'e |

“who will shelter this boy, while his mother tests her tears?” “a month in the past, a past in the month.” This is excellent Christopher. This poem flows beautifully and forms a wonderful piece that I am simply in awe of. I found myself reading this several times. Each stanza uniquely carries it’s own weight and could be read individually with it’s own distinct poignant message and depth. An amazing read. It just gripped me Chris … really well done indeed! Best wishes, /Kit |

"forlorn, - a civilization away - studying a map bedecked with colorful pins, each denoting where he was... a month in the past, a past in the month. she wonders: “where now & when... home?”" Sorry it took me so long to get back here C but this one deserved more thought than I had time to give it until now. I hope you'll check out the link Corinne suggested. This piece, I think, would be appreciated by many. I don't say this often but I truly wish I'd written this. Nice job C... |

We read poetry. *S* Excellent!! |

Hey Dear Friend, It's nice to see your face (well your words anyhow) again. When Home? The sad truth is that far too many moms, dads, brothers, sisters, friends, and relatives are having to ask this very question.I can't think of a better poet to have stated this obvious fact in such a heart gripping way. Well done! By the way, did I mention I liked it? ~ Ruth |
