melancholy is a strainer -
sieving leaves of life's tea
as we all sit
under the shadows
of the moonlit sky
remembering

darn them,
these moments
trapped in memories
           photographs fading on bright walls
           rock stars who died young
           flowers wilting at summer's end

them that stay behind
in grey matter of the mind
are perhaps,
the most fortunate
for, unlike the everyday cycle
of daybreak and sunset,
           they were special
     they are

just as the   moments
           where they waltzed through
the ones to be taken pleasure from

to be enjoyed
like dance in the rain
and unforgettable smiles

even in black and white
and a thousand shades of grey
and countless feels of blue

You even make being melancholic sound euphoric...don't worry it's not supposed to make sense..but sounded good in my mind and I guess thats all that matters

When we sift through emotions coloured by melancholia how well we remember all the little things that should be forgotten.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Yes, melancholic shades do serve a purpose...how well you've described the places they take us, Sudhir.

Saving this for my next trip there...
