Grant Me Serenity

I ran from the devil one foggy night
Disoriented and guided by my fear,
Slowing down only as I slipped,
Seeing my reflection on cobblestones made of glass
Asking myself, why…

I tried to reach Heaven by pity,
Searching along the lining of my heart
Where I walked up ivory steps
Guided by the glimmering night lights of the skies,
Finally hearing the chimes of innocence and love;
I fell to my knees in tears and joy
But in this dream I found only an Angel
And asked him, why…

With two flaming swords at my side
I traveled to the center of my existence
Searching for the sin that bids my heart to weep;
I found instead a devil and an Angel
Laughing and conversing with my soul.
My eyes then appeared as the cooling darkness
Hands grasping the brass handles of death
Then, with sadness in his blameless eyes
My soul asked me, why…

Serenity isn't a destination, it is a road that needs no destination.

This poem says -- underneath, where it counts -- that you're on it.
