Optically Improved
By Larry Chadwick

They were my days of innocence,
Redefined when seen through spectacles of grief.
Lenses that were fitted just for me,
Polished by my faith and my belief.

Adjusted by the experience of repetition,
One loss for each lense.
The past tweaked by the present,
Minimizing the meaning of whims.

Nearsightedness corrected,
But farsightedness totally improved.
And the matter of hindsight,
Theoretically disproved.

Acknowledging adjustments may be required,
No further correction is being sought.
I accept the treatment that was imposed,
Sharp focused vision from what grief has wrought.

Kacy,
How ironic. We played that song by Johnny Nash at Ginger's funeral. It was on the radio as I drove away from the cemetery in the rain after she was buried. So appropriate. Peace...

Every time, Larry, you do this every time. I'm not sure how, really. But I'm glad.

It's as if the innocence is only made so by their smile and I'm not sure if it's different now because of the pain, or because they aren't there to make it beautiful anymore. I think you know what I mean. And you're right, vision is better now and it's wonderful to be able to see, with such humble and sincere clarity, exactly how great they were... and how much greater we are because of them.

Um, did I mention I love this write? Of course, that's no surprise   Well done, Larry. And thank you. Take care...

Always, Alyssa

Martie,
Indeed we do. And I hope he soon goes out of business. Peace...

Aenimal,
Thank you sir. Much appreciated.

Alyssa,
You don't need a dad, do you? You are medicine for my healing heart. Bless you.

Some prescriptions are rougher on us than others, aren't they?

Beautiful write, my friend. *S*

I loved the manner in which you expressed lessons learned through trials - and the vision obtained through the experience -

Well done

Hi Larry!

Just dropped in and found your poem and I was touched by your writing as usual.  The lessons of grief are beyond painful but produce such wisdom  and understanding, especially in you, my friend.
